Prayers, Part 5: Thanksgiving

The series of prayers concludes with this prayer of thanksgiving. It covers the following three areas:
  1. Thanksgiving for unasked-for blessings: His original love towards mankind, the gospel and its spread throughout the earth, our own salvation and the means by which we came to know Him, etc.
  2. Thanksgiving for blessings given in answer to our own specific prayers
  3. Thanksgiving(/blessing of the Lord) for His qualities and Person in general: His mercy, love, holiness, majesty, goodness, etc.

...and it is based on Psalm 111. Enjoy, and let us together thank the LORD for His goodness and love:

A Prayer for Giving Thanks

Praise to You, O Lord, God of all!
We have come together to give You wholehearted thanks
As the congregation of the upright
whom You have washed and sanctified
by the blood of Your Son, Jesus

Great are Your works, O Lord
Full of splendor and majesty
Most of all Your great work of redemption in Christ
Which You continue in the Church
Through the gift of Your Holy Spirit
Who causes Your wondrous works to be remembered
Who inspires us to love and study them
Who teaches us to seek You
Who fills us with Your grace
For Your righteousness endures forever

You are gracious and merciful,
O Lord of mercy and provision
And You provide food for those who fear You
For both our bodies and our spirits
You remember Your covenant forever
And therefore You have heard our prayers
And answered our pleas when we have cried to You
in the name of Your Son, Jesus
our only High Priest and Mediator

You have shown us the power of Your works
Which are ever faithful and just
All Your precepts are trustworthy
Established eternally to be performed
with faithfulness and uprightness
And You have sent redemption to us, Your people
That we might thus perform them
Remembering that Your covenant with us in Christ
Is everlasting.

Holy and awesome is Your name, O Lord, our God!
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
And His love is its fullness!
May we practice it in good understanding,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord
by the power of the Holy Spirit
One God, united without confusion
distinct without separation
Whose praise endures forever! Amen.
